Elemental was inspired by water images. It is about balance, the forces of nature, the dualism of artifact and object, and stillness and motion—a moment of calm in the midst of chaos.
The 10-foot sculpture combines copper rod, brass, antler and 20 types of wood: African bloodwood, black walnut, black palm, bloodwood, bocote, bubinga, cocobolo, ebony, ipe, jatoba, lacewood, lemonwood, lignum vitae, lyptus, osage orange, padauk, pink ivory, purpleheart, wenge and yellowheart.
