Raptor
Soaring hawk outline against river stones with beads of water (polished nickel bronze). A cast bronze dried leaf and a woman's mouth.
Raptor is about darkness and silence. I like flatness, both as a sculptural quality and a reference to the illusion of a two-dimensional picture space. A pattern of river stones is framed by a hawk in flight, connecting earth and sky, time and space, finding rhythm in the midst of chaos. The droplets of nickel bronze suggest water and also reference the casting process. They are made from metal spilled on the floor during a pour.
